Stallion wrestling sweeps league teams

Thursday, February 04, 2010

By Ronald Montez

For the past two seasons in the North Yosemite League, there's been no match for the Madera South High wrestling team.

For the fourth time this season, the Stallions dismantled an NYL opponent with the latest being a 49-19 win over the Fresno Sunnyside Wildcats in Fresno.

"It was a big win plus we had three guys - Alden Moses, Cody Owen, and Daniel Hernandez - out with illness," Stallions co-head coach Mando Mendez said. "Our JV and second-string guys stepped up and helped out in a lot of ways with wins. My captains and leaders all went out there and led by example by pinning their guys."

For the second straight year, the Stallions finished the regular season with a 4-0 record in the NYL but in a more dominant fashion, outscoring their opponents 255-35.
