The apparent starvation death of 91-year-old Maria Concepcion "Conchita" Lopez allegedly at the hands of her paid caregiver, Stephanie Hernandez, is proceeding today with Hernandez scheduled to be arraigned at the Madera Superior Court.
Hernandez, 27, was arrested Wednesday on charges of involuntary manslaughter after the 35.4-pound skeletal body of her great aunt was found Dec. 4 on the floor of the home they shared in the 700 block of A Street. The body reportedly had large, open and infected bed sores on the spine, hips and other pressure points.
According to city property records, the home where they were living and where the death occurred is owned by Madera resident Theresa Manzo, who is reportedly Hernandez's mother.
Hernandez also reportedly had a 3-year-old daughter living at the address who was placed into the care of child protective services.
