Organic farmers exchange ideas
Friday, February 05, 2010

Growers and members of the local chapter of California Certified Organic Farmers met Tuesday for a quarterly meeting to tend to business and exchange ideas.
The local chapter of California Certified Organic Farmers is a non-profit organization linked to organic certification, education and outreach, and political advocacy by its members.
The local chapter has within it members from Madera, Kings, Tulare and Fresno counties and includes about 30 Madera County growers, according to its president Mike Braga of Madera.
Braga, who sells the almonds and pistachios he grows over the Internet, has been a member of the agency for about 10 years. Describing it as a "growers network," Braga said CCOF is "recognized as the premier certifying agency for organic food" and accredited under USDA National Organic Program.
