Artists called on for submissions in design contest

A design contest is under way for artists to create cover art for the Sierra Art Trails 2007 catalog.
The widely distributed publication is seen by hundreds of art trail visitors each year starting in July. The art trail is an open studio tour that gives art enthusiasts the chance to see fine art and fine crafts in the making, and get a firsthand view of how artists live and work.
The chosen artwork will also be used for show invitations, posters, flyers and other advertising materials associated with the event. In addition, the artist whose work is chosen will have their Sierra Art Trails participation fees waved.
Artists who submit work for the catalog cover must also plan to participate in Sierra Art Trails, and must submit a Sierra Art Trails application at the same time to qualify. The contest is not limited to images in traditional 2D media. High quality images of sculptures, ceramics, jewelry and other forms will be considered. Up to three images can be submitted with an application.
The Sierra Art Trails is a member of Madera County Arts Council, Mariposa County Arts Council, Merced County Arts Council, North Fork Arts Council, Mariposa Chamber of Commerce, Oakhurst Chamber of Commerce, Vision Academy of the Arts, Yosemite Visitor's Bureau and Yosemite Western Artists.
The submission deadline for the contest is April 15. Applications can be picked up at Stellar Gallery or Williams Gallery West in Oakhurst or download the SAT 2007 application at www.sierraarttrails.org.
The 2006 show featured 116 artists and artisans working in a wide range of media including painting, photography, jewelry, sculpture, fiber arts, woodcarving and ceramics. For information call 658-8844.
