Welcome to the kitchen and have a cup of coffee while we explore the subject of food. We are continuing our cooking and baking theme with the annual Madera District Fair in mind. Today I am extra excited because one of my favorite foods is the featured ingredient: figs.
This year, the Madera District Fair runs from Sept. 9-12. Entries for the special cooking contests close Aug. 17, so don't dawdle if you would like to enter. Visit www.maderafair.com and click on "fair," then on "exhibitor handbook" and you will find links for the contests, rules and entry forms.
If you aren't an Internet user, you can find exhibitors handbooks at the following Madera locations: Madera District Fair office, 1850 West Cleveland Ave.; Madera Tribune, 2890 Falcon Drive; 4H/UC Cooperative Extension, 328 Madera Ave.; Evans Feed & Livestock Supply, 241 South E St.; Valley Feed & Fuel, 121 North Gateway Drive; Madera Chamber of Commerce, 120 North E St.; Madera County Library, 121 North G St.; Madera Ranchos Library, 37167 Ave. 12, Suite 4C and the 22-Mile House.
