Gumper golf - The Madera Evening Lions' annual Gumper Classic Golf Tournament will be this Saturday at Madera Municipal Golf Course. Sign up, play and help raise some funds for the youth in our community.
Paul "Gumper" Munson was also known as the Donut Hole King, as he would bring such treats to friends, businesses and even strangers after picking them up at bakeries and donut shops around town. He didn't just bring the center part of a doughnut, but a smile and a laugh that would get you through the day. Fittingly, the tournament Saturday would have been Gumper's birthday.

Thinking good thoughts - yes, I always look for the best in things, people, places and times. A pair that fits all of the aforementioned, especially on an Alaskan cruise, is Gary and Carol Adams. However, this scribe and his gal are wishing and praying for the best as Carol recovers from a massive heart attack.

Things we should be worried about: Thanks a lot to a few readers who warned us that in 40 or so years there will be thousands of women walking around with tattoos and rap music will be the golden oldies. But hopefully some of us will be "Twistin' away" or maybe doing the "Stroll," the "Mashed Potato" or even the "Swim."
